What is Education and Sharing Day?
Education and Sharing Day is a nationally recognized day dedicated to the importance of moral and ethical education. It highlights the role education plays not only in developing minds but also in building character, fostering kindness, and nurturing a sense of responsibility toward others.
Why is it observed?
Since 1978, this day has been proclaimed annually by presidents, prime ministers, and public officials across North America in honor of Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, known as the Lubavitcher Rebbe. The Rebbe was a visionary leader who championed education that goes beyond academics—an education that instills values, integrity, and compassion in every child.
When is it marked?
Education and Sharing Day is observed on the Hebrew calendar date of 11 Nissan, which corresponds to the birthday of the Rebbe. In 2025, it falls on Wednesday, April 9.
What does this day mean to us?
At its core, this day reminds us that true education is about more than textbooks
and exams—it’s about shaping individuals who are thoughtful, caring, and committed to making the world a better place. It’s a time to celebrate the educators, mentors, and leaders who help guide our youth, and to recommit ourselves to supporting strong values in our schools, homes, and communities.
How is it marked in Georgina?
Each year, local officials are invited to join in marking the day by signing a proclamation that recognizes the vital role of ethical education. It’s a beautiful opportunity to come together—across backgrounds and beliefs—in support of a shared vision: raising generations of young people who will lead lives of purpose, service, and compassion.
